2012 Bellbrae Estate Heathcote Shiraz
Careful handpicking over the 2Ha area of a Shiraz Block in the Mt Camel sub region of Heathcote has resulted in us only taking 8 rows (or ¼ Ha) for this wine. This 20 year old vineyard produces small berries with great intensity and flavour –just what we were looking for........
Hand picked and the 50% Whole Bunch fermented, the ferments were kept fairly cool (18-20C) until complete. This slow fermentation further improved aromas, fruit weight and character, which was then enhanced by 14 months maturation in new & 1 yr old French and American barriques.
With rich aromas of blackberries and chocolate and beautiful soft tannins that ripple across your palate, this is a big, bold Syrah that is multi-layered with deep, maraschino cherry and blood plums flavours. Fabulous right now, on its own or with food, but due to it’s palate weight cellaring potential is easily 10-12 years.
20% New French Barriques, 50% 1yr & 30% 2yr
French &American Oak for 14 months
