2012 Longboard Pinot Noir
Like the image of renowned Longboard rider, Rex ‘China’ Gilbert enjoying a lazy ride on a gentle swell, our Longboard range is there to help you unwind after work or to enjoy over dinner at home or with friends. Long in flavour and impact, each variety on offer in this range is a finely crafted example of its type, priced for everyday and ready to drink now.
From a long cool season that exemplifies our cool climate, this Pinot Noir is elegant, yet rich earthy and brooding. Aromas of cherry, plum and forest floor unfold in the glass. A rich earthy palate with dark cherries and forest fruits with plenty of umami characters developing to a complex finish of truffle with hints of soy. The flavours are enhanced by mouthcoating, fine-grained French oak tannins, which give subtle texture and grip on the palate.
Hand-picked from our Estate Vineyards, the ferments were crushed and allowed to cold soak on skins for 48 hours, which gently soaked out colours and flavours. The ferments were then inoculated with yeast and hand plunged for the 6 day ferment.
Once pressed, the wine was transferred to 2 & 3 year old barrels to undergo Malo Lactic Fermentation. Upon completion, the wine was then transferred to 1 & 2 year old French Barriques for its 10 month maturation cycle.
