2014 Bellbrae Estate Bells Syrah
Careful handpicking over the 2Ha of our Shiraz Block resulted in us only taking 8 rows (or ¼ Ha) for this wine. After 12 years of careful cultivation, we have found that this area produces the smallest berries with the most intensity –just what we were looking for.
Hand picked and the 50% Whole Bunch fermented, the ferments were kept fairly cool (18-20C) until complete. This slow fermentation further improved aromas, fruit weight and character, which was then enhanced by 14 months maturation in new & 1 yr old French and American barriques.
With rich aromas of blackberries and chocolate and beautiful soft tannins that ripple across your palate, this is a big, bold Syrah that is multilayered with deep, maraschino cherry and blood plums flavours. Fabulous right now on its own or with food but due to it’s palate weight, cellaring potential is easily 10-12 years.
